The intermediate Orchestra is for the developing instrumentalist.
Each camper is involved in the following:
The Intermediate Orchestra is a string orchestra, which performs both sacred and classical music. It participates in the Wednesday service in a memorized all-camp piece as well as in the Friday evening concert. Seating placement within sections is determined by audition. Each camper plays a designated selection from the orchestra music during an assigned time on Sunday afternoon.
In Master Class, selected Advanced Orchestra campers play their solos while being critiqued by a teacher and being observed by Intermediate and Advanced campers. This is an excellent opportunity to be inspired to higher levels of playing by observing other campers receiving specialized individual instruction.
This is a new opportunity for high school students in the Intermediate Orchestra to choose a focus area for some of the classes. While campers can choose from Composition (writing and arranging music), Conducting (directing both choir and orchestra), and Pedagogy (teaching music, esp. strings), they will need to make this choice known on their registration form so we can properly prepare for each class. High school students in the Intermediate Orchestra who would like to participate in the Advanced Tracks as their schedule allows should submit their requests in writing. These requests will then be considered by the staff on an individual basis.
We provide technique training to help campers develop good string-playing habits. This training is vital in helping campers advance their playing abilities.
The Intermediate Orchestra is designed for campers who read music well and are in Suzuki Book 3 through Book 5.
